Amaterasu is the Sun Goddess, who formerly lived on the Celestial Plane. She is incarnated in the form of a white wolf (with spiritual markings that show up to those who can see), when Nippon is in trouble. Her previous incarnation fought the dreaded Yamata No Orochi, along with Nagi, and won---but potentially at the cost of their life. A statue was erected of Shiranui (Ammy's former incarnation), and in the time of troubles when Nippon is threatened again, wood sprite Sakuya seeks Ammy's aid again. But Ammy is weakened from her time away, and must regain her brush-powers, finding and releasing the celestial brush-gods. She must also free Nippon from the grip of Orochi, and others who threaten it. She's aided by Issun, a celestial envoy and poncle who wants nothing more than to be a wandering artist.
